What is BIMI?

BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification) allows email providers to display your brand logo next to authenticated emails in the recipient's inbox. To enable BIMI, you need to publish a special DNS TXT record that tells email providers where to find your logo and, optionally, your Verified Mark Certificate.

The BIMI Record Generator at https://app.dmarcreport.com/generators/bimi creates this DNS record for you automatically.

Fields

Logo Address (Required)

The HTTPS URL to your brand logo in SVG format.

Requirements:

  • Must start with https:// (HTTP is accepted but HTTPS is strongly recommended)
  • Must end with .svg
  • Maximum 255 characters

Example: https://cdn.example.com/brand/logo.svg

Note: Although the field is labelled "Logo Addresses" (plural), the current version only accepts a single URL.

Trust Authority (Required)

The URL to your Verified Mark Certificate (VMC) — a certificate issued by an authorized CA (DigiCert, Entrust, etc.) that proves you hold the trademark for your logo.

Example: https://example.com/certificates/vmc.pem

Don't have a VMC yet? VMCs typically cost $1,000–$1,500/year and require trademark registration. You can enter a placeholder URL to generate and test your BIMI record, but most major email providers (including Gmail) will not display your logo without a valid VMC. You can update the record later once your certificate is issued.

Note: Although the field is labelled "Trust Authorities" (plural), the current version only accepts a single URL.

Generating the Record

1.  Enter your SVG logo URL in the Logo Address field

2.  Enter your VMC certificate URL in the Trust Authority field

3.  Click Generate BIMI Record

The tool outputs a DNS TXT record in this format:

v=BIMI1; l=https://example.com/logo.svg; a=https://example.com/vmc.pem

Where:

  • v=BIMI1 — BIMI version identifier
  • l= — Logo location (your SVG file URL)
  • a= — Authority location (your VMC certificate URL)

Publishing the DNS Record

Add the generated value as a TXT record in your DNS with the following name:

default._bimi.yourdomain.com

Allow time for DNS propagation before testing.

Common Errors

"Invalid logo URL" — Check that your URL starts with http:// or https:// and ends with .svg with no spaces or unencoded special characters.
